Professor Nico van Straalen from the Free University of Amsterdam received the title of doctor honoris causa of the Jagiellonian University during a solemn session of the Senate, which took place on November 19, 2019 at Collegium Maius.
The laudation in honor of the eminent Dutch biologist was delivered by prof. Ryszard Laskowski, who emphasized the scientific achievements of professor van Straalen in the development of ecotoxicology in Poland, support of Polish research teams and education of young scientists: "Professor van Straalen belongs to a small group of outstanding scholars with unusually wide horizons and to a small group of researchers who can be considered the founders of modern ecotoxicology. He is one of the most recognizable scholars in the Netherlands and an excellent science promoter. All those who have cooperated with the team of Professor van Straalen, and especially with himself, are invariably impressed by this special combination of knowledge, kindness and directness in contacts."
