The inauguration of the academic year of doctoral schools at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków – ANGOS translations

Starting from October 1, 2019, as a result of the reform of higher education, doctoral schools were created at Polish universities. On November 27, the inauguration of the academic year of four such schools took place at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow.

All students entering a doctoral school will receive a special scholarship. After two years, the results will be verified. A positive grade will mean a higher scholarship, a negative grade will result in the student leaving the school.

During the inauguration, the Rector of the Jagiellonian University prof. Wojciech Nowak said:

"I am convinced that these schools will offer our doctoral students the opportunity to become even better. This is the beginning of education in a completely new reality. I am convinced that we will succeed. I thank those who have chosen this innovative scientific career path in this academic year."

The inaugural lecture "On the essence of scientific knowledge" was given by prof. Maria Flis, head of the Department of Social Anthropology of the Jagiellonian University. In her lecture she quoted an excerpt from Adam Asnyk`s poem “Vain regrets”: The world will not give you, going back, insignificant margins of the rank, fire and sword cannot stop thoughts on the run”…
