Professor Reiner Schmidt - an outstanding German scientist - was awarded the title of doctor honoris causa of the Jagiellonian University. The ceremony, chaired by the Rector of the Jagiellonian University, prof. Jacek Popiel, took place on October 15, during the ceremonial session of the Senate at Collegium Maius.
The honorary doctorate of the Jagiellonian University was awarded to professor Reiner Schmidt for, among others, outstanding scientific achievements in the field of public, economic and environmental law, and for promoting Polish science and culture in Germany.
While delivering his speech, prof. Fryderyk Zoll presented prof. Reiner Schmidt as follows:
Today, a great scientist of European talent becomes an honorary doctor of the Jagiellonian University, a person whose contribution to building bridges between Poland and Germany is difficult to overestimate. The community of the Jagiellonian University had no doubts that Professor Reiner Schmidt should be awarded the honorary doctorate of the oldest Polish university. This academic honor is not, however, the crowning achievement of the collaboration or its end. What has been built will continue to develop for the benefit of both universities, Poland, Germany and Europe.
